How and when can I join?
The childcare voucher scheme is closed to new entrants but if you currently have childcare vouchers you can still amend and cancel your childcare vouchers.
If you don’t currently receive childcare vouchers or you have joined NTU recently you can find out more about whether you are eligible for the government’s Tax-free childcare scheme. It is not possible to receive both childcare vouchers and Tax-free childcare.
Prices
If you are a current member of the scheme you are able to receive a maximum of £243 of vouchers a month depending on your tax band and whether or not you were already receiving childcare vouchers before 6 April 2011 when the tax rules changed.
An earnings assessment will be carried out once a year and you may be restricted on the amount you are eligible to take depending on the tax bracket you are in:
Tax rate | Cost |
Basic rate taxpayer | £55 per week / £243 per month |
Higher rate taxpayer | £28 per week / £124 per month |
Additional rate taxpayer | £25 per week / £110 per month |

- You leave NTU
- You cancel the benefit due to a life event

I cancel my childcare vouchers will I be allowed to re-join the scheme at a later date?
If you decide to cancel your childcare vouchers and need to re-join the scheme in the future, you must do so within 52 weeks of your last deduction/voucher being issued. This assumes that you are staying with NTU. When you want deductions to start again contact mybenefits@ntu.ac.uk, giving at least one month's notice.
What happens if I leave NTU
If you leave NTU and you are receiving childcare vouchers you will no longer be able to access the scheme, either here or with a new employer because the childcare voucher scheme is now closed to new entrants. You may be able to apply for the government’s Tax-free childcare scheme if you are eligible.
Cancellation of your childcare vouchers will be effective from the last day of your employment. Any funds remaining in your voucher account will be available for you to use, these are non-refundable.
